If you are like me, there is just no avoiding stress on a day to day basis. From deadlines at work to personal responsibilities to just reacting to everything that is happening around us. It can feel like we’re constantly battling against a tide of tension. While conventional methods like meditation and exercise are well-known stress relievers, sometimes a little unconventional approach can work wonders in calming the mind and soothing the soul. Here are some surprising ways to overcome stress that you may not have considered before.
Laugh Therapy: Laughter truly is the best medicine, and laughter yoga takes this concept to a whole new level. So yes, while you could sit and watch a great comedy, there is a unique form of yoga that combines laughter exercises with deep breathing techniques to induce spontaneous laughter. Even if it feels forced at first, the contagious nature of laughter can quickly turn genuine, releasing endorphins and relieving stress.
Harness the Power of Scent with Aromatherapy Showers: Having an essential oil diffuser is wonderful, but you can transform your daily shower routine into a sensory experience with aromatherapy showers. Simply add a few drops of your favorite essential oil, such as lavender for relaxation or peppermint for energy, to the floor of your shower before turning on the water. As the steam rises, the aroma will envelop you, creating a calming or invigorating atmosphere depending on your chosen scent.
Engage in Random Acts of Kindness: Steve Farber wrote a book and in it mentioned this as a suggestion, and I loved it. When you’re overwhelmed or unhappy, focus on the other person and it can really help to change things. I find it’s one of the most effective ways to shift your focus away from your own troubles is to help others. Engage in random acts of kindness, whether it’s paying for someone’s coffee, leaving a kind note for a stranger, or volunteering your time for a cause you care about. Not only will you make someone else’s day brighter, but you’ll also experience a sense of fulfillment and connection that can help alleviate stress.
Find Solace in Sensory Deprivation Tanks: I have heard about this … I can’t try it because lol I have claustrophobia but I have heard it’s wonderful. What you do is step into a sensory deprivation tank and you can experience profound relaxation as you float effortlessly in a buoyant solution of water and Epsom salt. In the absence of sensory input, your mind is free to quiet down, allowing you to enter a deeply meditative state and let go of stress, anxiety, and tension. It’s like taking a mini-vacation for your mind and body.
